Backstory of “I can haz foods?”

    November 5th, 2009

The question of late has been “Where in the heck does ‘I can haz foods?’ come from?”  Well, first off, I am a foodie and love food of all kinds and provenance, trying anything and everything I can.  There isn’t much I don’t like (well, canned ham is a definitely no-no; for all I revere The Pig, canned ham is icky to me), and I can usually be counted upon to try whatever you’re serving.

As for the poor grammar, it’s mostly in homage to our bossy cats, chiefly the biggest of the two, Carbon.  He’s a sweet, huge boy and around mealtimes starts to suspect that his housemates, The Food Givers, are a little dim and have forgotten to feed him again. For this infraction, they should be reminded in the most forceful way he knows how.

He almost never politely requests food, however, and probably wouldn’t be caught dead saying “I CAN HAZ FOODS?” Rather, you would probably hear ‘Bon (the name he is most often called) saying something more along the lines of “GIVE ME TEH FOODS NAO!”  Case and point, this morning, he was particularly shrill when demanding to be fed.

If you’re still unclear on the poor grammar, go school yourself over at ICANHASCHEEZBURGER and all will be made clear: this is how cats talk, after all.
